So...apropos of exactly nothing, I present to you a poem I wrote for Dougie a couple years ago. I was going through some old files on my hard drive and there it was. It's a little bit of a downer but I hope you'll all appreciate it, given just how much we all loved him.

Dear Doug,

Hey there, fatass, how's it going?
I've been thinking about you a lot
So I thought I'd drop you a line.
Things down here are pretty good.
I'm depressed, but that's not your fault.
I can blame the cops who took your life
And the fact my body ain't right
And society, for being so gods-damned hateful
But not you
Never you

You, with your stupid hair and your sweat pants
Throwing references to Debbie Gibson songs
Into Sunshine of Your Love just for shits & giggles
You, your beautiful soul shining and radiant
You, your heart so perfect and Divine

I cried for you. I would think of you and
Suddenly my cheeks would be flooded by tiny
Oceans spilled in memory of you, in agony
Knowing that I'd never get to see your stupid fat face
Or hear your voice with that sibilant "s"
Ever again

Echoes of the past break through to me now and again
A photograph of us
A recording of you
As a pale memory in a dream
You haunt me
I'd rather have you than your ghost
but
I'd rather have your ghost
Than nothing at all
