[2013 note: the full un-edited "Cashola" section will feature in the remix contained in the upcoming reissue.]

Am I not finding it, or did that not happen? I've heard the extended version on Free EP v2 (Upstairs at Nick's) but I'm not finding it here. I've checked the remix and the 24/96 versions. I've ripped every bit of audio I can find on the DVD (even the "convenience store" rendition of Potato) and I ain't got no Cashola. Is it me?

Man, apologies for pulling the rug out from under you on that one, but the more I heard the full-length Cashola the more I was convinced (as I was originally) that the song was not stronger for its inclusion. As the new stereo mix was coming along and I was realizing that it was indeed definitive, I decided I didn't want to saddle it with the extraneous Cashola. Still, I had a plan to include the extended section in the surround mix, as an unexpected surprise - it seemed to me that the surround mix was a more forgiving place to play that kind of a trick, and the extended section worked better in surround than stereo anyway. The mix was delivered to Neal Wilkes in the UK that way (he authored the DVD-A); but he soon informed us that the stereo and surround mixes of the album needed to be the precise same length as they were sharing the same plot of real estate on the disc. Perfectly logical but of course it didn't occur to me while working on the mix. Although it was a bit late in the game at that point, I could have delayed production a tad and included it as a bonus track or a super-long menu music thing (a la the unreleased "Beautiful" piano track which is on there somewhere), but it honestly didn't occur to me to do it. Sorry about that! I will try to get a copy of the long version to you, Ron, so you can check it out. You're not missing much of a wonderful listening experience though. The mix is kind of a mess in that section, and for that song we had no remixing options.

I get that, definitely. I've heard live recordings of the extended version (which may not be as extended as the official version) and found it interesting, but not essential. I'm glad you didn't put it into the 2013 mix; I figured it would have been a bit of menu music or something. So yeah, I'd rather not have it at all than have it in the middle of such an awesome remix.

The full conclusion of Own is a different story, of course. :)
