Well, for me, a lot of it is a nostalgia/lifestyle factor. I like the ritual of putting on the record, poring over liner notes and cover art in the large size, turning over the record, etc. It's odd, but I like it. Also, almost all new releases (and reissues) come with a download code anyway, so I can rip it to my iPhone and listen in the car or on the train.
I can browse the stacks at Newbury Comics and walk away with something that doesn't look like computer software from Staples. Browsing old used record stores is a treat, too. And we still have a few of them in Boston.
As far as sound quality goes, a lot of the stuff I listen to is analog anyway. Not so much in terms of contemporary jazz and classical, but it's a trade-off. The 180 gram pressings tend to have greater audio fidelity (so I'm told), but I'm not enough of a sound quality geek to do blind testing or anything like that. Arguments can be made on both sides of the issue.
