There's a settlement, but the police are still clueless and still have
no idea how to handle that sort of situation. They miss the fact that
their job is supposed to be to keep the peace. They miss the fact that
just because they wrote things down and called it procedure doesn't make
it right. Saying "It's okay because we wrote it down" is another way of
saying "It's okay because we said so." So nothing changed.

At least this article points out that he did nothing illegal and there
was no reason for them to try to arrest him in the first place. Other
articles have pointed out that he wanted to leave voluntarily. So there
was never any reason for any of it. Whether or not you agree that they
should have been there, it's clear that they should have had training
in handling situations, whether they be with somebody on drugs, who is
drunk, or has a neurologically or biochemically related illness.

Now there's a settlement that's just large enough that if his daughter
ends up going to a top university, she will graduate in debt. The
officers never admitted that there's a thing they should have done
differently. And he's still gone.

Shitfucky.

:-(

I've found myself thinking of Dougie a lot the last few months. I'm not
sure entirely why, but every time a piece of music hits me emotionally,
I keep thinking back to the stories of how deeply Mike's music affected
Doug and how I envied him that. I've had my moments, but none like he had.

Shitfucky.

...

Gods damn it.

I think about Doug every single day I draw breath. I dream about him. Sometimes we talk for hours in my dreams and I wake up with an ache I can't describe in my heart.

It's good they were able to get this settlement, but it's disappointing that two cops will walk free while my best friend...

Motherfuckers. Gods-damned motherfuckers.

Thanks for sharing this, Hagrinas.

I miss you, Doug. I miss you so much it hurts.

The best thing we can all do at this point is continue to love Dougie. That's what I'm gonna do. Quite literally I think of him every day. Much love for Shay and Katie.
