I post this even though I know Mike will see it. I tell people that
saying Mike and I both play guitar is much like saying Ron Jeremy and I
are both males. Technically, it's true, but...

http://soundcloud.com/alantig/watermelon-in-easter-hay

I've wanted to learn this for so long. Ori and I discussed it MONTHS ago.

I'll probably re-work it in a few months, but I'm kind of happy w/how it
turned out. I took a few liberties, but it's fairly faithful in some
tonal aspects. The next time likely won't be.

Yes, we did discuss this months ago, and I'm pleased to see you ignored my recommendation of playing all the parts on a banjo.

Nice!

Thank you, sir - and I did take your recommendation. Well, *started* to
- but the police came and said, "No. Just no." That Mr. Sting, he's
miserable. Great stamina, but miserable.

Where is the "like" button?
[And no, I won't put my finger _there_]

ps Expect to be sued by Gail. Not a threat. A fact.

Well, it didn't take long for you to see through my master plan - a
thinly veiled attempt to fill the 'Z' slot in my A-Z collection of cease
and desist letters.

That didn't last as long as I'd hoped - guess I need to go back and come
up with a new quest...

Of course. Playing an FZ song is likely to take away sales because
nobody will hear it and want to listen to Frank's version. It would be
almost as bad as when radio (does that still exist?) played people's
songs and folks just listened to it for free. When there were 200
million people in the US, if a record sold a million copies, that meant
that 99.5% of people in the country never bought it despite constant
airplay. It follows that if there had been no radio play at all, perhaps
50 million people might have bought the album instead because it would
have been their only way of hearing the music.

The same logic must apply to FZ, and I'm sure that ZFT knows it quite
well considering how many radio stations refused to play his music,
assuming it was unfit. That explains why FZ outsold The Beatles, who
were on the radio constantly. At least I assume he must have.

Or perhaps in real life things don't work that way, people who play
other people's music for fun would not have done so if they knew that
paying royalties was the only way to practice a song on guitar, and
playing it for fun might actually stimulate people's interest in buying
the recording from the original artist.

If Gail wants to cut off her nose to spite her fans, she will learn the
true price of greed.
