Damn, what a good album. I think it blows away anything he's done in ages. A picture of this album should be featured in the Wikipedia entry for "knocking it out of the park," if there was such a thing.

McCartney sounds like a guy who spent fifteen years making old man music, then spent the next five basking in the creative energy of much younger musicians, and now is practically jizzing with new-found enthusiasm for making vital music. Which is all mostly accurate, except probably for the jizzing. Of course some of this is thanks to the bevy of producers he's brought in to make it all shiny, but this remains a quintessential McCartney album through and through.

It's on Spotify for those of you who do that, so just go listen to it. For the rest, find a way to hear it.

Every song on this album deserves to exist. That's high praise, trust me.

Oh, I should mention that my two favorite McCartney albums to date are McCartney II and Back To The Egg, so you might want to consider that when weighing my opinion.

I really like Back To The Egg. This is on my list to get. It's funny,
though - on a music board I frequent, uh, frequently, there are very few
if any "it's okay" reviews. It's either an awesome album or a piece of
crap.

But it's McCartney...

I really like Back To The Egg.
I've never understood the hate for that album. I think it's really solid.

I'm not sure about the little hate I've heard for the new one, either. I'm not sure what more folks can reasonably expect at this point. Then again, I wasn't a big fan of the last few (not counting the Fireman stuff) so maybe it's a matter of what ears you're coming at it with.

I like what little I've heard of "New." He seems to be updating his sound without sounding like he's pandering or trying too hard. Very natural.

I'm not exactly a scholar on McCartney's solo work, but I will take the somewhat predictable opinion that I think "Band on the Run" is a pretty spectacular album. I even like "Wings at the Speed of Sound" in a cheesy, guilty pleasure kind of way. And the Wings version of "Love is Strange" (from "Wild Life") is a really beautiful thing.
